Faces with Exchanged Texture Average
نویسنده
چکیده
Human faces diier in shape and texture. This paper describes a representation of grey-level images of human faces based on an automated separation of two-dimensional shape and texture. The separations were done using the point correspondence between the diierent images, which was established through algorithms known from optical ow computation. A linear description of the separated texture and shape spaces allows a smooth modeling of human faces. Images of faces along the principal axes of a small data set of 50 faces are shown. We also reconstruct images of faces using the 49 remaining faces in our data set. These reconstructions are the projections of an image into the space spanned by the textures and shapes of the other faces.

3D shape and 2D surface textures of human faces: the role of "averages" in attractiveness and age
Recent work in the psychological literature has indicated that attractive faces are in some ways “average” [J.H. Langlois, L.A. Roggman, Attractive faces are only average, Psychological Science, 1(2) (1990) 115–121] and that the apparent age of a face can be related to its proximity to the average of a computationally derived “face space” [A.J. O’Toole, T. Vetter, H. Volz, E.M. Salter, Three-di...
متن کاملEffects of 3D Shape and Texture on Gender Identification for a Retro-Projected Face Screen
Retro-projected face displays have recently appeared as an alternative to mechanical robot faces, and stand apart by virtue of their flexibility: they are able to present a variety of faces varying in both realism and individual appearance. Here we examine the role of both 3D mask structure and texture image quality on the perception of gender in one such platform, the Mask-bot. In our experime...
متن کاملWhy are average faces attractive ?
A. L. Austin observed, in a letter written to Charles Darwin in 1877, that a composite of two faces was strikingly attractive. Mr. Austin placed two different portraits in a stereoscope and noticed that they fused into a single portrait. He wrote: “The faces blend in the most remarkable manner, producing in case of some ladies portraits, in every instance, a decided improvement in beauty” (Galt...
متن کاملCombining and Steganography of 3-D Face Textures
One of the serious issues in communication between people is hiding information from the others, and the best way for this, is to deceive them. Since nowadays face images are mostly used in three dimensional format, in this paper we are going to steganography 3-D face images and detecting which by curious people will be impossible. As in detecting face only, its texture is important, we separat...
متن کاملSeeing the mean: ensemble coding for sets of faces.
We frequently encounter groups of similar objects in our visual environment: a bed of flowers, a basket of oranges, a crowd of people. How does the visual system process such redundancy? Research shows that rather than code every element in a texture, the visual system favors a summary statistical representation of all the elements. The authors demonstrate that although it may facilitate textur...
